The BPP Diner

Where the show continues

The end of the BPP allowed me to come clean about my lust for Tricia's clock but it has also cut me off from my one reliable source of new music and bands.

Can someone suggest an alternate place to go to hear new stuff? I really don't have time to filter things out so I really liked the BPP's presentation of a band and a fairly good sized chunk of one or two of their charts. Is there anything like that out there?

I'll always thank Jacob for turning me on to Ponytail. Sigh. So many great things about the BPP to miss. My go-to spot now is All Songs Considered. They really do a great job of covering the complete music spectrum. I especially love the guest DJs, always artists in their own right, talking about other music they like.

Thanks for the pointer David. I'll check out All Song Considered/

All Songs Considered is great. They also have a podcast-only show called Live Concerts from All Songs Considered that is worth checking out. (Full concerts performed by great bands!)

You should also give a listen to a great show on APM called Sound Opinions. They play a lot of new, interesting music that I wouldn't have heard of otherwise.

Sound Opinions is excellent. It's a public radio show run by Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot, two rock music critics, and it's an excellent source of new music. They have long reviews of new releases and often focus on new bands or "buzz" bands.

I'll second the love for All Songs Considered. And Bob Boilen is a rock star - every time I've emailed the program, he has responded personally.

Paste Magazine, Paste Magazine, Paste Magazine. Every issue comes with a sampler CD - 15 to 20 brand new tracks from artists familiar and new. And they have stacks and stacks of reviews - far from the paltry reviews offered by Rolling Stone.

If you're really stumped for ideas, you can always just go to the Pitchfork website every once in a while. They're just bubbling over with concerts, record reviews, and news about bands you love and bands you've never heard of.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys! All Songs Considered is great. I grabbed pretty much their whole backlog of pod casts and I'm working my way through them. I'll definitely keep an eye out for Sound Opinions, it sounds interesting as well.
