I'm not shocked by the story. I'm shocked that they not only published his picture from the surveillance, but also pictures from other sources, released his full name, his ADDRESS (!) and got his family involved.

Jeez. "Possession of less than one ounce of marijuana" and posession of paraphenalia? They cordoned off his block??? The term trumped up charges seem appropriate. Give the guy community service and leave him alone. I can't believe CNN covered this. Somalia, Georgia, starvation and mass murder, ok, but porn stealing???...my god.

The charges are fairly serious. If the guy is bold enough (or deranged enough) to try using this ploy to get a couple of free DVDs, he could easily go farther. Impersonating an officer is not a minor offense.

When you go to a place of business that announces that you're being filmed, you take your chances. In this case, publishing the pics was probably the best way to find the guy.

Providing the details of people arrested is common in US papers. I think it's considered a matter of public record, but it is indeed shocking.

It's not surprising that all possible charges be made. He probably would not have been charged with these on their own. They're just add-ons.

Closing off the street? I'm not sure what that's doing in the article and have a feeling it's not related to the rest of the article.

Whatever happened to due process? I mean like, whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? The guy has rights too, doesn't he? As do his family and friends and neighbors... I feel so bad for them. And he probably has a lot of problems.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be punished. It seems slightly out of proportion, though. Doesn't it? It was a non-violent crime. Why is it on CNN?

This morning I rode my bicycle through a red light. They should arrest me because in the future I might drive a car bomb into an embassy. If I break one traffic law, who's to say I wouldn't break another traffic law.

I just feel sorry for the guy is all.
