Not much exciting me this week, but here are the heavy hitters:
Conor Oberst has (at least temporarily) dropped the Bright Eyes tag and has released his first album under his own name. Haven't heard it, don't really care.
Randy Newman's new one, Harps and Angels, is getting some buzz. His last album of new, non-soundtrack material, 1999's Bad Love, somewhat unexpectedly had some of the sharpest songs of his career, particularly the utterly brilliant first-person character study "Shame," which remains one of my favorite songs he's ever done. If there's more like that, I'm in.
Anything else of interest?
