@Jane, I agree. Can you imagine the success of a show which already has a built-in audience and established word-of-mouth even before a single show has been recorded? What some shows would do for that kind of buzz.

@ Steven Oberman - yes, I agree it will be hard... but it seems to me that there are enough people here who what to try so we certainly have a good level of support. Feel free to brainstorm away with us. If you could add some thoughts to the discussions above it would be great!

Thanks Jane for this group. I know that getting a BPP program is going to be hard. Many people mentioned this. I am not trying to but water in discussion/group but far from it. I have experience in TV/Radio but that is decades ago. I changed directions in my life. As I am disabled now, long story, I have tons of time on my hands. I love to brainstorm and would like to participate in any way Ii can.

Re: PS This group has its own separate discussion board which resides directly above this "comment wall" area. You can create new topics in addition to the one already started there.

Good point...I have posted some discussion sections above to get us started...maybe we can start filling stuff into these areas...it will help us get more organized.

Anyone - please add any other areas you think we need - I am just making an initial run at all of this...

No, that's good. Reality is good.

It's a tough balance. You hate to throw water on the enthusiasm, momentum and desire to fill the void that is here at this moment. And yet the likely reality is nothing happens for a looong time apart from small sketches that don't have production standards anything like the original BPP.

Basically, I kinda drew this out before into a long post a couple days ago, but it boils down to this: the barrier to initial entry is pretty low, as long as you put your expectations down there as well. The barrier to top-notch production values is pretty extreme. Not impossible, just a huge amount of effort and skill sets that may be hard to come by.

PS This group has its own separate discussion board which resides directly above this "comment wall" area. You can create new topics in addition to the one already started there.

@The Mighty Favog - No you are not a killjoy, you are just realistic. That is good....we need to be clear that it is not an easy task that we are considering. You raise some very valid points here.

Producing any sort of show is certainly not an area that I have any expertise in. I am not sure how our group can "do" what the BPP did...especially when it had a budget to do it with. As we are not (yet) in the position to bring any of the BPP staff back it is hard to know exactly what we should be doing...but I suppose we can take small steps...

So...anyone who has contacts or knows of people who can help us with this quest?...please invite them to join us.

Let's gather up our to do lists from other places and post them here.

Let's do some sort of inventory of what expertise we have at present.

Let's get clear on what we can do in the short term and get going on that.

Let's begin to brainstorm about what sort of show might be possible to start with.

Other ideas?

One word of advice about putting together a podcast that would more or less match the production standards of the original BPP: It will be incredibly time consuming, and you will need folks with the appropriate skill sets to pull it off.

The thing about radio is that you have to be really skilled and work really hard to sound like you're "being natural." Good radio is, more or less, a couple of people having a conversation at the kitchen table over a cup of coffee.

On the other hand, not every kitchen-table confab necessarily is interesting enough or put-together-enough to make good radio. Really, it's demanding work.

For example, I do a 90-minute music program, and I strive for top-notch production values and a thoughtful music mix. That 90-minute show -- which I assemble in multitrack -- takes a good eight hours of work (at least) from putting together a playlist through posting it online.

And that doesn't count countless hours, days and months of putting together all the "formatics" -- the "sweepers," IDs, sound effects, theme and every other format element.

I'm not saying a podcast, etc., isn't doable -- it is. But it's hard work, and the littlest things make the biggest difference qualitywise.

I don't mean to be a killjoy or a wet-blanket thrower. An eye-opener, perhaps. . . .

Ditto, MarilynM.

I have no media contacts. Would someone have a media rabbi in their Outlook contacts that we can invite to the Diner?
