I am MISERABLE with my morning void of The BPP. The commitment from the BPP gang to your adoring fans on this site is more appreciated than could ever be explained… Thanks for The Most, Cont’d, now let’s work on the Ramble!
Thanks so much for today's most! I had an awful day, and am still in denile of the cancellation. I actually went to the NPR-BPP website hoping you were all just pulling our legs and I would get to hear everyone together again, but having even a truncated most was a wonderful end to my day!
Hello Tricia! Great to see you here. I had a great time meeting you as well and really enjoyed our conversation. Good luck with the new job you mentioned (you started today, right?). I'll be rooting for you and the other folks from the BPP! Already missing listening to it... it's just not the same without you guys.
Hello Tricia! There were so many cool people to meet at the tweetup that I don't think I got a chance to come over and introduce myself, but hey, I get to do it now! Thanks for all of your great work. I hope we'll run into each other some other time (perhaps at another meetup?).
Tricia-
You should all be commended for an amazing show. I know it's not right to slag off others but I need to say that I listened to The Takeaway and found it a poor imitation of BPP so I discontinued my podcast subscription. You all managed so well to find the balance between being hip and not being hipsters; between being intelligent but still fun; being informative yet always entertaining. BPP will be missed, as you know. Thanks for giving me such a great time!
I should have known BPPers would know about sugaring! Yes, Tricia, you're right. Every year the start of the sugar season varies, but I've talked to some "old timers" and the date has gotten earlier, if there memories serve them well. In OH we consider Feb/March the prime season, but we have actually started tapping very early Feb/end of January. I looked back at my journal a second ago, and we prepped the sugar house January 21 and tapped Feb. 4. If we would have tapped one week earlier, we could have caught an extra sap run.
Sorry if that's tmi, but basically I'm saying you are right, and we are tapping earlier in OH because the weather is getting warmer sooner (and colder later, actually).
Sadly when anyone asks me about syrup I ramble too long, but I sure love it.
Thanks for your very kind words re: "Sparrow." It's a meaningful song for us, and I was hoping at least one of you BPP folk might find it... helpful? touching? appropriate? Ahdunnah. :-)
Hey, all, thanks for everyone who met up with us last night. We had a great time appreciating each other for the last (official) time. I'm sad today, but no time to wallow. I have to prepare for a job interview.
Hey Tricia,
I waited until right now (about midnight) to listen to the final show - needed the house to myself.
THANK YOU for your thoughts today. Smile. Which is why I wanted to listen alone - I knew someone would cry: me.
As the year and the decade draw to a close, lists are everywhere. We're asking why we love them so much and what the proliferation of lists says about us a culture.
This week's demonstrations in Iran have shown that the opposition "Green Movement" is gaining political strength. But Ayatollah Khamenei and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard aren't giving up power without a fight. We'll assess the strength of each side and look at where the battle is heading.
Women have fought to legitimize their work as housewives, but now more men are assuming these roles and taking on the battle themselvs. As part of our Work in Progress series, The Current is taking a look at stay-at-home Dads.
We get the latest on the negotiations to release Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier who was captured by Hamas in June of 2006. And we look at why Israel has a policy of negotiating with groups that it considers terrorists when so many other countries refuse.
